NEW IN: The Most Hydrating Lipstick EVER and Other Beauty Bits!

My beauty stash is horribly lacking in the lip department. I’ve always been the chapstick-eyeliner-mascara-and-go kind a gal. Indeed, lipstick and I have never made quite the pair. My lips are dry. Typically always but especially when the weather’s a bit nippy. Like… I-am-a-desert-nothing-will-grow-here-but-cacti dry.

If I take the plunge and wear lipstick, I’ll typically give up half-way through the night and put chapstick on. But with the colder seasons approaching (which means Christmas and New Years.. yup I’m already thinking about Christmas heh heh), I decided I needed a nice red lippy and maybe an everyday, your-lips-but-better kind of shade.

I took it upon myself, for the good of dry-lipped people everywhere, to find a formula that doesn’t dry out lips and has staying power. I walked into Sephora a woman on a mission and, needless to say, walked out with a few more bits than anticipated…

Let me introduce you to my new favorite thing (drum roll please)…

Bobby Brown: Crushed Lip Color (Telluride)

IMG_3243

Can I say wow? WOW. Bobbi. You’ve outdone yourself. This bad boy falls somewhere between a lipstick and chapstick. I typically prefer natural makeup looks and this lippy takes the cake. With one swipe, it gives a blotted, stained finish that makes me look and feel like a movie star. You can also build it up, I’ve found, for a fuller-coverage look. It’s a low-maintenance lipstick that stays put for a good long while. My dry-lipped community, I have found the holy grail.

Other products I picked up….

Nars: Velvet Matte Lip Pencil (Cruella and Dolce Vita)

IMG_3224.JPG

Ah, the famous Nars Lip Pencils. I was so quick to dismiss the hype, thinking there’s no way a pencil could be hydrating enough for my lips. Well folks, it’s worth the hype. It is hydrating and the color payoff is incredible. I tried on Cruella and immediately wished it was New Years Eve and I was sipping on champagne. What a gorgeous cool-toned scarlet red. Mamma mia!

IMG_3227.jpg

Instead of cashing out for the full size, I decided to buy a cheaper mini duo (one of which is Cruella).  The other mini is in the shade Dolce Vita, which I was completely clueless about until I tried it on at home. It’s a stunning dusty rose color that I actually think I will get a lot of use out of! It’s one of those colors you can throw on in the morning and forget about.

Bite Beauty: The Lip Pencil (034- Plum Rose)

IMG_3229.JPG

This was actually a little extra that I picked up with my spare points! I’d heard good things about bite beauty lip pencils and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to give it a go. My prognosis: it’s soft and creamy during application and the color is gorgeous. However, I tried filling my lips in with it to see how it would stand as a solo-lip product, and it was a bit too drying. The pigmentation, though, really is gorgeous. I could definitely see this as a great base product for my Bobby Brown Crushed Lip Color.

Chloé: Love Story Eau De Parfum

IMG_3252.JPG

IMG_3276.JPG

Again, another points purchase. I love the original Chloé scent (I’ve considered leaving my For Her by Narciso Rodriguez a few times for it) and this one smells quite similar. It is floral and sophisticated, with a dash of sexiness. Obviously, I jumped at the prospect of having a little rollerball sample that I could keep in my purse. Wouldn’t you?

MAC: Eyeshadow (Bronze Frost)

IMG_3233.jpg

IMG_3261.JPG

This actually wasn’t from Sephora, but from the Mac shop next door! (Oops… I may have stumbled in there after my triumph at Sephora). This color is a stunning shimmery bronze shade – perfect for autumn. I’ve found myself wearing just this on my lid with some mascara and feeling 10/10. Ugh, gotta love MAC.

Do any of you suffer from dry lips? What are your go-to lip products?

All my love, Katie xx

Fall Nail Polish- My Top Three Picks

IMG_3202

‘Tis the season for deep red and subtle nude nail polishes! Ha. Who are we kidding. That’s pretty much what I wear on my nails all year round (I’m very boring with my nail polish color choices). That being said, I recently found these three shades from Essie and they are game changers. I mean, I don’t think I’ve found colors that suit my skin tone this well… perhaps… ever? Geez.

And I know what you might be thinking. Katie… these are three of Essie’s bestsellers. Yes, I know. But somehow I’ve been completely oblivious and only just learned of their existence a few days ago. So, in my excitement, I thought I’d write a blog post and share with you lot the glory that are these nail polishes incase they’ve somehow slipped under your radar, too.

Sand Tropez:

This is a gorgeous cool-toned, light beige color with some gray undertones. The formula isn’t extremely thick, so it requires two coats. But it applies evenly and smoothly and lasts a good amount of time.

Bordeaux:

Yes. We’ve found it, folks. The perfect shade of autumnal red. Not as bright and flirty as Essie’s A-list, and not as dark as Essie’s Wicked – this one teeters somewhere beautifully in the middle. It’s a rich red wine color, which practically screams “classic”. The formula itself is lovely and self-leveling. This, I can already tell, is a color I will be coming back to year after year.

Topless & Barefoot:

Another nude, but this one is a barely-there, light beige pink. Gorgeous in every light and for every occasion, it is magic in a bottle. Fun fact! This shade was apparently dubbed “the most popular nail polish color on Pinterest” according to Allure magazine. I definitely can’t say I’m surprised.

Have you tried any of these shades? What are your favorite autumnal nail polishes?

(Ps. I’m in no way sponsered by Essie, I just happen to love their nail polishes!)

The Signature Scent

This post is an ode to my favorite perfume.

IMG_2793

I have been wearing “for her” by Narciso Rodriguez for about 5 years now. You’d think I’d get sick of a scent… but alas. Every time I get a whiff of this on my clothes, I think to myself: Damn, I smell good.

I have gotten compliments from strangers, acquaintances, coworkers, and friends. To be honest, I’m never as popular as when I wear this fragrance.

IMG_2812

What I love about having a “signature scent” is that people associate me with a particular fragrance. So whenever a friend gets a whiff of “for her”, they immediately think of me. What a way to leave a lasting impression, eh? And what a relief that people associate me with a gorgeous scent and not – I don’t know – the smell of sweat or farts.

I’m rubbish at describing scents but let me try:

It’s musky, woodsy, mysterious, warm and sultry (can a scent be sultry?) with gentle hints of vanilla. It’s a romantic, elegant scent. What you’d imagine Elizabeth Taylor or Grace Kelly might wear.

Not to mention, just look at that packaging. My god. Good enough to EAT.

Whoever Narciso is, he’s a damn genius.

Evening Skincare Products

I’ve been told that your early 20’s are the best time to develop a skincare routine- you’re young enough to stop premature aging in its tracks and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I must confess, I’m not sure how I feel about the persistent war-on-aging in America. I think that the wrinkles, laugh lines, and scars on our bodies tell stories deeply entrenched in who we are.

However, I do appreciate the notion of caring for your body. Taking the time to look at yourself, morning and night, and thoughtfully caress and nourish your skin. Up until this year, my regimen has largely consisted of splashing water on my face and slathering on moisturizer. Not the best regimen. So I recently decided to put aside some time, show my skin some love, and start caring for my face properly.

My skin is often well behaved, but when it’s bad, let me tell you, it’s BAD. I have dry skin, which gets terrible in the New England winter (like… my ‘eyebrows start shedding dandruff’ bad), but I’m also prone to breakouts in my T-zone. I don’t frequently get pimples, but when I do, they stay for weeks on end. These are a few of the products that have been keeping my skin in check this summer:

Make Up Remover:

IMG_1860

I haven’t been wearing a lot of face makeup recently, so all I need is my trusty Garnier Miscellar Cleansing Water to remove my eye makeup. I put a little bit on a cotton pad, rest it on my eye, and gently wipe away any makeup from the day. It doesn’t sting or leave a greasy residue like most eye makeup removers, but feels light and gentle on the skin. No wonder it has a cult following.

Cleanser and Toner:

IMG_1842

Clinique holds the key to my heart. I use Clinique Liquid Facial Soap (extra-mild) to cleanse and it is a GOD SEND. All the cleansers I have tried in the past have dried out my skin. This cleanser, on the other hand, is nothing short of magic. It’s non-drying and gentle, but still feels like it is cleansing my skin. Honestly, I couldn’t recommend it more.

Similarly, the Clinique Clarifying Lotion is just as amazing. This toner is perfect for sensitive, dry skin. Anyone out there with dry skin, do yourself a favor and check these products out.

Serum and Moisturizer:

IMG_1865

For my moisturizer, I use Pacifica’s Dreamy Youth Day and Night Face Cream. It absorbs wonderfully into my skin, feels light on the face, and is super nourishing. Pacifica is a pretty great brand all together – reasonably priced, paraben-free, sustainably produced, and good quality products.

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate was my splurge of the year. But me-oh-my was it worth every penny. You only need a few drops and you can see the difference in your skin overnight. It leaves your skin glowing and so unbelievably soft. Not to mention, it contains evening primrose oil and lavender oil, so it smells absolutely divine.

Facial Spray:

IMG_1882

These last few months have been HOT, so I have been adoring the Mario Badescu Rosewater Facial Spray. It’s one of those panacea products that works for everything. I use it to set my makeup, as a quick pick me up in the middle of the day, and to prep my skin for moisturizer. It’s deliciously refreshing and feels so luxurious to use. I mean, come on guys – rosewater – how classy is that?

When I have a little more time on my hands…

Face Mask

IMG_1893

I love using these Dermal sheet masks. I bought mine on Amazon. They’re reasonably cheap – about 50 cents per mask, and guys they WORK. They hydrate your skin beyond belief and leave your face feeling firm and refreshed. After leaving it on my skin for 20 minutes, I’ll usually wrap the mask around my neck and décolletage for another 15 or so, to really get my money’s worth.

Facial Massage Oil

IMG_1884

While I find this Tata Harper Nourishing Oil Cleanser to be a little too heavy to use as an everyday makeup remover, I have been using it for facial massages. If you haven’t tried giving yourself a facial massage – do it. It is the ultimate way to pamper yourself. I was first introduced to the concept by the amazing Lisa Eldridge in a Youtube video. It’s a wonderful way to care for your skin and to release all the tension you hold in your face. Check out her video and give it a try!

Have you tried any of these products? If so, let me know what you think of them! And if you have any recommendations of other products to try, I’m all ears!
